After several weeks of working independently, we are proud, this week, to present a collaboration. Across both space and time, our two heroes have managed to throw together a poppy chorus with Canadian indy-rock influenced verses and record it for presentation here as the twenty third song out of fifty two. Just think, if songs were years, our little project would already be legally drinking throughout North America, and would be just two years off from being able to rent a car everywhere. What a magical time. Bah dap Bow!

Discussion

CHRIS: It was my turn to take the lead on a song this week, but then I did something foolish and selfish. On Tuesday evening, I jumped into a car with a few friends and headed south to Bonnaroo, a music and arts festival in Tennessee, where I may die from heat exhaustion, dehydration, or hippie-overexposure. So, before I left, I frantically (yet dutifully!) banged off a song and sent it to Steve.

The problem was, I wasn’t really finished writing it. Some lyrics I actually made up on the spot while I was in the middle of recording the vocal track (see if you can tell which ones! it’s hard to tell because all the lyrics are kinda lazy!) and my attempt to record a guitar solo fell pathetically flat. Other lyrics I couldn’t even make up, so I just hummed the melody and sent an email to Steve to the effect of, “hey buddy, this week’s song is totally ready, you just need to write a few of the lyrics and also sing them and then figure out what to do about my horrible guitar playing and finish mixing it and then upload it and finish the blog post ok thanks bye!” And then I wrote these words.

And now I’m camping in a field just outside of Manchester where showers cost $10 each and involve “sulfur-treated water,” because nothing says cleanliness like taking a shower inside a fart bomb. I hope the song worked out! Because if you’re listening to this before Tuesday, then that means that even though you’ve heard it, I still haven’t! Neat, eh?

STEVE: Totally neat! Right kids? So, here’s what I did. I kept busy doing stuff all week until 1am Friday morning. That is when I remembered about this song project. So, I hopped to it, voxed some vocals, twiddled some organs, tweaked some settings, and hopefully Chris will like what I did with his creation when he hears it on Tuesday. Tell then, enjoy! Imagota bed.

Lyrics

The whiskey got jealous
The vodka turned
Yeah they’re all looking now
To see what you’ve learned
The floodgates are open
The lights are all on
And they’re all singing now
Singing your song

And all at once doors open up
And you’re just standing there
You tripped on your way back up
But fell into their stare

Bah bah bah dap bow
You are a star now!
It’s just like you always wanted
The crowds follow you around
Is it everything you thought?
Is it exactly what you want?
Did you find peace of mind?
Did you find peace of mind?
Do you mind?

And if you get jealous
Of all the other boys
Well they’re just toys to me
Yeah, signal to noise
And if you go searching
For a dry spot in the rain
You’ll hear it coming now
Like a distant train

And all at once doors slam shut
And you’re just standing there
You tripped on your way back up
But fell into despair

Bah bah bah dap bow
You are a star now!
It’s just like you always wanted
The crowds follow you around
Is it everything you thought?
Is it exactly what you want?
Did you find peace of mind?
Did you find peace of mind?
Do you mind?
